The-Bar-End.com uses the Apache HTTP server to host websites. This is an open-source HTTP server for modern operating systems. The goal of the Apache HTTP server project is to provide a secure, efficient, and extensible server that provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP standards. Apache has been the most popular web server in the internet since 1996.

Technologies incorporated in the Apache HTTP Server include:

  • MySQL 2.2.14 + PBXT engine
  • PHP 5.3.1
  • Perl 5.10.1

To allow you to upload your pages to your website we use the FileZilla FTP Server. FileZilla offers lots of features including:

  • Easy to use
  • Supports resume and transfer of large files
  • Synchronised directory browsing
  • Remote File search
  • Remote File editing

Although you may use any FTP client of your choosing to connect to the FTP Server, it is recommended that you use the FileZilla FTP client to connect to the FileZilla FTP server. The FileZilla Client can be downloaded free of charge from the FileZilla-project.

It should be noted that all servers need to be set up manually with your hosting details before your free hosting account can become active. Access to the MySQL database will be instigated as required, please let us know if you need a database facility for your website.
